Computer VS user.

The epic tale of a poor Windows (Vista) user.

Computer whilst playing WoW> Error 132.
User, surprised> Kay, restart WoW.
Computer> Cannot start WoW. Common.mpq file missing.
User> Fine, run WoW repair.
Computer> Cannot run WoWrepair. Files are too corrupted to repair.
User> Wtf?
Computer> Please reinstall.
User> Fine, deinstall WoW.
Computer> Cannot deinstall WoW, files severly damaged.
User> Deinstall anyway.
Computer procedes to delete 8GB in game files within seconds.
User searches for WoW discs.
Computer starts installing WoW.
User makes coffee.
Computer> Cannot read disc 5.
User procedes to jam disc 5 a gazzilion times into the computer.
Computer> Installation complete.
User> Yay!
Computer> Downloading update. 512 KB of 898 MB downloaded. Estimated time 4 hours.
User turns a hammer onto herself.
End.

Yes, the poor user is me. Still waiting for that darned patch to download.:banghead:

It happened to me some months ago too but it was the motherboard going nuts and messing up with the harddrive + memory. I remember the pain of going through all those steps... files missing, files corrupted, couldn't repair, error installing, patch downloading bla bla bla..... ANNOYING!

I have 3 WoW backups in separate places. Can never be too careful.

@ Bynji - my sympathies on Vista. The most infuriating OS Microsoft ever inflicted on the world. I rolled back to XP after a week of head-desking....just not worth it...

Some get lucky, others don't it typical OSes these days. I can't get Ubuntu to work on this laptop but it works fine on an older machine *shrug* (if it weren't for the screen dying after 5 minutes I'd use the other one, WoW is faster on it)

I love Vista, even have 64bit.

It may not run 16bit apps, or let you disable driver checks, but I still think it's the best I've used.

4 hours of patches? When downloading the trial for City of Heroes my estimated downloading time was 26 hours. In the end it may have only been about 20. During that time I went to the pub, came home and slept, then woke up the next day to find it finished.

That said, it does suck when you've planned on playing then you can't 'cos you've got to wait hours for it to be ready. /sympathy
