There's a tiny little catch though: I've distributed this gold among a lot of monsters and questgivers. If you go and kill monsters and do a bunch of quests, then they will surely hand that gold over to you.

It's a pyramid scheme. They have to get regular mobs to pay them so they'll have more money.
